Utopia Encuentro 2025 – The DJ’s

Tango Utopia is pleased to present to you it’s DJ’s for Utopia Encuentro 2025! Please see our Encuentro page for event information.

DJ Euan Park

My first encounter with tango was in a theatre, watching a Korean original play about love. No—poly-amor actually. Because one of the actors was a social tango dancer, the director used tango dance as a significant building block of the storytelling. The tango, interwoven into a storyline of love, captivated me, and I began to learn tango in no time, and have been dancing as a social dancer in Seoul milongas ever since.

From the very beginning, I was fascinated by tango music, and since 2015 I have been DJing all over Korea: Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, Changwon and Jinju, to name a few. To my joy, I added Taiwan and the US, Utopia Encuentro 2024, into my djing career recently. Besides, teaching tango and working as the manager of SoloTango community in Seoul marked a special moment in my tango life. As a TDJ, I also tried to understand the process of music making, as well as the resulting music itself. As a result, using the work experience as a publisher-cum-translator, I decided to publish the Korean version of Michael Lavocah’s interesting book, ‘Tango Stories: Musical Secrets’, co-translated by me and another TDJ Benjamin Lee.

I know clearly that DJ’s job is to make people dance: firstly, using the flows in each tanda and between tandas, and secondly, interacting with the live energy of the dance floor. In this process of ‘Live Tango’, each of us, as a member of a huge tango community, are adding our own input to renew tango, making it richer and more enjoyable. In this collective process of renewing tango, I believe that the beautiful tango music from the Golden Era of D’Arienzo, Di Sarli, Troilo, and Pugliese is being given a new life as today’s ‘Tango con Poly-Amor’.

DJ Kim Scola

Tango found Kim in 2012, and she quickly became fascinated by the music. After receiving
encouragement from Cleveland organizers and DJs, she started working in her own community. Along her DJ journey, she trained with Hernán Prieto and Susana Miller, which greatly influenced her technique and style. She works consistently as a regular host in Cleveland and guest DJ throughout North America.

Kim’s style is best characterized as one that creates a positive, upbeat vibe with a focus
on the subtle beauty and diversity of the music. Her mission is to play inspiring, trustworthy sets so that you can dance your best tandas.

Some of the highlights of her work include:

  • ESO! Tango Marathon–Alt Milonga (Buffalo, NY)
  • Toronto Tango Experience (Toronto, CA)

DJ Tincho

Tincho began dancing tango in 2007 and has since performed in various locations across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Argentina.

In 2017, while teaching, he took up DJing, an experience that deepened his passion for social dancing. As a student of tango’s golden age, Tincho has been invited to DJ at events throughout central and southern Ohio, as well as in Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Maryland, and Michigan. His goal as a DJ is to provide dancers with the music they love—music that inspires them to dance and seek out partners they enjoy dancing with.

Tango DJ Jae Youn

Jae is the founder of Tango Utopia in the greater Raleigh/Durham area. She is recognized as one of the premier teachers, dancers and DJs as well as the organizer of the monthly Milonga Utopia and the weekly practicas.

As a DJ, Jae loves the challenge of keeping dancers on the floor to the very last tanda. Her sensitivity to the energy of a milonga influences her music selection. Her music library is focused on the traditional masters and this is also reflected in her musical choices. She has been invited to DJ at festivals, milongas, marathons, and encuentros milongueros across the country and in Europe.

DJ Eunsook Kim

I have been dancing tango for twelve years, and as year goes on, the sheer happiness of dancing tango grows more and more. In the meantime, I got fascinated by DJing, which allows me to connect with other milongueros through music.

I began to study DJing in my third tango year because I assumed I could dance better if I understood the music better. My tango trip to Buenos Aires in 2017 has become a meaningful watershed in my DJing journey. I especially fell in love with the charm of DJing there, to make people dance so happily. Since then, I have been a regular DJ in Seoul milongas. Besides, I have traveled to many milongas all over Korea, and have experienced how different people and mood require different sets and flows of tango music. As a new entry to the honorable DJ team of Utopia Encuentro, I am very excited to share my DJing experience with extraordinary tango lovers, with whom I had so much fun last year.

DJ Yulia Kriskovets

Yulia has been a tango DJ for over 15 years, both locally in Washington D.C. and in various tango events throughout the U.S. She loves to contrast the music texture and emotional charge in a way that drives the crowd to dance all night. She aims to get to the trance-like state where dancers feel safe and inspired. Most recently, Yulia is inspired by the idea of the wave from the 5 Rhythms dance practice and incorporates it in her tango DJing.
