3:00pm – 4:30 pm Boleos milongueros in close embrace: These movements represent musical effects without using space on the dance floor. (Intermediate/Advance)

BIO

Oscar Casas, a renowned and highly respected milonguero and teacher in Buenos Aires, was immersed in the world of tango at a very young age, observing his parents, who were avid tango dancers, and experiencing the popular milongas they organized in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Growing up in this rich environment gave Oscar the background and “tango base” from which he developed his own unique style.
His distinctive dance style is greatly admired by the “old guard” in the milongas of Buenos Aires. He dances with musical sensitivity, delightfully interpreting the nuances of the various orchestras, and creates an experience that allows for lively and candid dance conversations between him and his partner. Oscar’s love for tango is clearly evident to all who have seen him dance, whether at a performance or in the middle of a milonga. His dance exudes sheer joy!

Oscar’s teaching style is characterized by energy, humor and generosity, making him extremely popular among his students. His teaching emphasizes concepts such as the importance of musical improvisation and interpretation while respecting the character of the different orchestras. He is especially interested in the dynamics and “cadencia” (cadence) of the dance. His clear, concise teaching method allows for the effective absorption by the students of technique and musicality concepts, while his charismatic personality fosters a fun learning environment. Ultimately, his goal is to make all that he teaches applicable at crowded milongas.

Oscar Casas teaches regular classes at “El Beso” in Buenos Aires when he is not traveling the world to teach and perform.
