There will be no Utopia tango classes on Monday, 25th due to dance studio being closed because of the weather condition.

We’ll resume our classes back on next Monday, Feb.1st!

First Milonga Utopia of 2016 with Jay Abling!

Does your heart sink when you hear people talking about the fabulous time they had this past weekend at Utopia’s NYE Milonga or the Haw River Tango Marathon? Do you wake up with the cold realization that the great tandas experienced this past weekend may be just that, a thing of the past? You may be suffering from MGT (Miss GREAT Tandas) Syndrome!

The only way to battle this horrible condition is to attend another great event. And here is your opportunity!

This Saturday, January 9, Utopia welcomes Jay Abling! Jay is a highly recognized tango teacher and DJ (http://www.jabling.com/). He will make this weekend magical with his carefully selected tandas. The music will be amazing, so come on out for an evening of beautiful dancing and, of course, yummy food a la Utopia style!

You also have the opportunity to learn from Jay as he will be leading the practica this Thursday, January 7. In addition, on Saturday, right before the milonga, Jay will be teaching a class.

So for those of you suffering from MGT Syndrome, relief is on the way!

NEW VENUE for New Year’s Eve Milonga

New Year’s Eve Milonga 2015!

Tango Utopia and Triangle Tango have joined forces for yet another New Year’s Eve Milonga. For the evening, we’ll have a double dose of our local DJs—Jae Youn & Cecil Ho. The tango queen herself will get us started with a lively mix of tandas sure to keep our energy levels up while we count the hours down. After midnight, Cecil Ho will kick it into high gear so we can start 2016 with a new groove.

Guests will enjoy delicious appetizers and a festive champagne toast at midnight. The music will go to 3 AM, so you can join us after the ball drops and still have a great time. Let’s bring in the New Year Tango Utopia style!

Special Tango Events This Weekend, October 8-11, 2015

Before our weekly práctica, join us on Thursday, October 8th for a Chacarera class (6:30 – 7:30 pm) taught by guest instructor Agustin Rojas who is visiting the Triangle this month. Agustin specializes in teaching this famous folklore dance of Argentina, so don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an expert ($10).

On Saturday, October 10th, we will have DJ Ramu from Washington D.C. along with 14 other dancers from the DC area for our Octoberfest Milonga Utopia. Ramu will teach an intermediate level class before the milonga from (8-9 pm – $10), then head over to the DJ table to play some lively tunes from 9 pm – 2 am ($10).

And don’t miss Ramu’s Milonga Workshops on Sunday, October 11th. Ramu will teach two fun and energizing classes focusing on Milonga Traspie from 12:30-1:30 pm & 1:45-2:45 pm. The cost is $25 for both classes (Sunday práctica included) or $15 for one class.

New classes Begin Monday September 21st

The new series of classes for Beginners and Intermediates start on Monday, September 21st.

Beginners meet at 7:00 pm and learn the basics of tango such as posture, embrace, body awareness, pivots, connection, and parallel and cross system. This class is ideal for individuals who are new to this dance and for individuals who wish to refresh their tango technique.

Intermediates meet at 8:30 pm and concentrate on developing techniques like core strength, extension, balance, open and close embrace, and connection. This class is for individuals who have some tango experience and for intermediates and advanced dancers seeking to refine their technique.

You may RSVP at our Meetup site or simply show up to class.

Pricing
Individuals: $10 per class; $50 for the 6-week series
Couples: $18 per class; $90 for the 6-week series

There is also a FREE práctica between classes from 8:00-8:30 pm.

All classes are held in the upstairs studio at Triangle Dance Studios (2603 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC 27703)
