Tonight’s practilonga features a special guest DJ, Dedra Demaree, who will treat us to her expertly arranged tandas ($5). The práctica starts at 7:30 PM, immediately after the Beginner class on the cross system.

This weekend features the First Saturday Milonga sponsored by Triangle Tango ($8). For more information, visit their website.

As usual on Sunday, we rest up for our Monday classes. Intermediate students will work on their milonga moves. Cecil Ho returns to teach the Advanced class to play with split weight.

All events take place at Triangle Dance Studios (2603 S. Miami Blvd, Durham).

This Weekend in Tango, September 26-29, 2013

Start your weekend off right by joining us at TONIGHT’S weekly práctica at 7:30 PM ($5). Here students of all levels can practice what we learned this week in class. If you’re still new to tango, you can come to the Beginner lesson that starts at 6:30 PM.

There are no local milongas this week, but feel free to take your tango on the road. Tango Wilmington is hosting a weekend with the Tami Trio of Buenos Aires featuring live music and dancing on the UNC Wilmington campus. Visit their website for more information.

As always on Sunday, we rest up for the intermediate (exploring close embrace) and Advanced (petite boleos) classes on Monday.

This Weekend in Tango, September 19-22, 2013

This Weekend in Tango, September 12-15, 2013

This weekend in tango is our favorite weekend because we host Milonga Utopia on Saturday, September 14 from 9 PM to 2PM ($10). This month features the renown DJ, Rick Kim who brings an intoxicating mix of music to stimulate the connection of masculine and feminine in the dance. Rick Kim started in Charlotte and moved to the DC area, so he’s sure to bring a good crowd. We also have our usual yummy munchies and sparkling door prize.

You can brush up on the techniques you learned in class by attending the weekly práctica TONIGHT at 7:30 ($5), which begins immediately after the Beginner class. We’re only in class #2, so you still have time to start learning tango.

Intermediate and Advanced students will continue their lessons in close embrace and boleos on Monday.

This Weekend in Tango, September 5-8, 2013

We begin the weekend with the first class of the new series of Beginner classes at 6:30 PM. After class, Beginner students can stay for the weekly práctica at 7:30 PM ($5).

The new series Intermediate and Advanced classes start on Monday, September 9th. Intermediate students will explore the limits of close embrace and Advanced Students will focus on petite boleos.

September 7th is Triangle Tango’s First Saturday Milonga at TDS from 9PM to 1 AM ($8). Please visit their website for more details.

Tango Utopia Classes Start 9/5 and 9/9

Tango Utopia is excited to announce its upcoming classes for all levels of experience.

The Beginner 8-week course (THURSDAYS from 6:30–7:30 PM, 9/5–10/24) will teach tango newcomers the basic techniques of Argentinean tango: the tango walk and embrace, parallel and cross system, walk to the cross, ochos, and giros.

In the Intermediate 8-week course (MONDAYS from 7:00-8:00 PM, 9/9–10/28), we will explore close embrace.

We are starting the Advanced class a half an hour earlier (MONDAYS from 8:30-9:30 PM, 9/9 – 9/30). This month’s topic is Doing More with Less: Petite Boleos.

This Weekend in Tango, August 29-September 1, 2013

As usual, we begin the weekend with the Beginner class at 6:30 PM. Tonight’s class is the last in the series, so we encourage you to sign up for the next cycle starting on Thursday, September 5th. Intermediate and Advanced students can join us at the weekly práctica at 7:30 PM ($5) to master those techniques we learned in class.

If you need your tango fix over Labor Day weekend, join Cecil and Jae for the Tango Addicts Milonga on Saturday, August 31st at TDS back studio from 9PM to 1AM ($8). They will be dealing out some smooth tandas to help you reach your high and light refreshments will be provided to replenish your spent energy.

This Weekend in Tango, August 22-25, 2013

As usual we kick off the weekend with the Beginner class TONIGHT at 6:30 PM. Jae is back from vacation and she will pick up where Cecil left off with the ocho. After class, stick around for the weekly Thursday night práctica ($5).

Tangophilia is hosting a weekend workshop with Tomás Howlin. Please visit their website for more information on classes and the Informal Milonga at TDS on Friday ($10). Saturday is the monthly Milonga Pichuqueando at Piazza Italia. This FREE milonga will feature Roberto Restucha as DJ  and  a performance by guest instructors, Tomás Howlin and Karen Jaffe from Tangogypsies in Asheville.

And as always on Sunday, we rest up for classes. This Monday is the last class in the series for Intermediate and Advanced students so come with your ideas and be ready to work! We’ll be announcing the new class schedule soon, so please stay tuned!

This Weekend in Tango, August 8-11, 2013

This weekend is our favorite weekend in tango! We host the August Milonga Utopia on Saturday, August 10th from 9PM to 2AM at Triangle Dance Studios ($10). We are honored to have special guest DJ Lisa Jacobs, host of Catwalk Milonga in Asheville.  She is fresh from her guest DJ performance in Saltwater, ME and will bring her vintage mix of music to the Triangle.

As usual, tonight we begin the weekend with the Beginner class at 6:30 PM to continue work on the walk to the cross. Intermediate and Advanced students can join us at the weekly práctica at 7:30 PM ($5) to master those techniques we learned in class.

Speaking of Monday classes, Jae will be taking a much-needed vacation next week so all classes will be taught by guest teachers. Cecil Ho will lead Intermediate students in exploring the ocho cortado and John Singletary will teach Advanced students larger linear boleos and volcadas into the cross.
