TangoUtopia is hosting a Student Milonga give beginners a chance to learn what to do and what to expect at a milonga. The evening will cover the basics of etiquette and music (e.g., tandas and cortinas), and of course, give everyone an opportunity to dance. Experienced dancers are encouraged to attend this event to help new dancers develop the confidence to come to one of our Triangle-area milongas. Please dress to impress!

The Third Friday Milonga at Open Eye (June 21st) is back, with the intro class and music provided by Cecil Ho. The lesson is FREE and the milonga costs a mere $5 (8 PM lesson; dancing from 9-11:30 PM). For more information, please visit the Triangle Tango website.
Of course you can always come out TONIGHT to the weekly Thursday práctica at Triangle Dance Studios ($5, 7-9:30 PM). It’s a great place to meet new people and work on those ochos, giros, paradas, and pasadas we learned in class.
Before the new series of classes starts on July 8th, we will host a Student Milonga on Monday, June 24th at 7 PM ($5) to help you learn what to do and what to expect at the next milonga.

There’s no milonga scheduled in our area this weekend, but there’s still time to join Jae for a one-day workshop and milonga in Wilmington on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Visit the Tango Utopia Events page for more details.
Before you head to the beach, plan to come to the weekly práctica TONIGHT at Triangle Dance Studios (7-9:30 PM, $5) to work on those ochos and paradas we learned in class.
Monday, June 17th is the last class of this series. Beginners will learn to turn their ochos into giros and Intermediates will learn paradas and pasadas milonguero style. We will take a two-week break before the next series of classes starts on July 8th. You may sign up for the new Beginners and Intermediates classes and all other events on Meetup.
In the meantime, plan to come to our student milonga on Monday, June 24th at 7 PM ($5). Feel free to bring your questions about what to do and what to expect at a milonga, and of course, be ready to dance!

This weekend in tango is our favorite weekend in tango! Saturday, June 8th is our monthly Milonga Utopia at Triangle Dance Studios (9 PM to 2 AM). As always, we host the Triangle’s tango community for an evening filled with great music, delicious refreshments, and yummy tandas. For June local DJ and tango dad, Cecil Ho, will bring his eclectic mix of music and milongeros, Alicia & Eduardo Lazarowski will teach us the chacarera, an Argentine folk dance. We will give away our usual sparkling door prize, plus a special prize for all the dads and dads-to-be. Join us for a fun evening (RSVP here)! Cost: $10; 7 for Tango Utopia students
If you can’t make it on Saturday, be sure to come to TONIGHT’S práctica at TDS from 7-9:30 PM to work on the techniques we learned in class. On Monday, Beginners will learn ochos and Intermediates will continuing exploring paradas and paradas.

The June Tango Utopia Milonga promises to be fabulous night for all the hard-working dads out there. So put away your power tools and turn off those techie
gadgets to join us this Saturday from 9 PM to 2 AM. This month the DJ will be tango dad, Cecil Ho, who will bring his eclectic mix of music to keep us dancing. As a special treat, Alicia and Eduardo Lazarowski will lead us in a demonstration of the Chacarera, an Argentine folk dance. Anyone who missed the “official” Farewell Milonga for Cecilia you will have one more chance to dance with our beloved milonguera. In addition to the monthly sparkling door prize, all dads and dad-to-be get another raffle ticket for a special prize! As always, we’ll have plenty of munchies to keep our energy levels up and everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite beverage to share with friends.

Join us for a workshop in Wilmington, NC on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Jae will be teaching three classes–circular movement, tango moves for milonga, and her favorite milonga combinations ($15 per class)–and the milonga will feature DJ Thierry Olivry ($5). This event is hosted by Tango Wilmington and will be held at Ballroom Dance Sport (4523 Franklin Avenue, Wilmington, NC). Please visit the Events page for more information on how to register.
This weekend features a special Farewell Milonga for Cecilia Pagani, a beloved member of the tango community in the Triangle, on Saturday, June 1st at Piazza Italia in Brightleaf Square (Durham) from 9 PM to 1 AM. This FREE event is co-hosted by the Lazarowskis, the Restuchas, and Tangophilia and will also feature live music by Duo Milonguero and DJing by Jason Laughlin.
Also, plan to come out TONIGHT to the weekly Thursday practica ($5, from 7 PM to 9:30 PM) to polish up on those techniques we learned in class this week.
On Monday, we will continue with our 6th class of the series, with Beginners learning the walk to the cross in cross system and preparing for ochos and the Intermediate class exploring ideas of parada (stopping) and pasada (passing over).

It’s going to be a tango-filled weekend, starting with the weekly Thursday night práctica at 7PM ($5) at TDS. This event is a great opportunity to practice what we learned in class in a fun and friendly environment.
You have a choice of workshops as well. Tangophilia has invited Nick Jones and Diana Cruz for a weekend full of workshops on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at TDS. These classes are recommended for individuals with some tango experience. Visit the Tangophilia website for more details.
Those new to tango can opt for a two-hour Tango Basics workshop on Saturday from 2-4 PM at Ninth Street Dance in Durham. This workshop is led by local teacher, Gülden Özen.
And then there’s dancing! The Informal Milonga on Friday from 10 AM to 1 AM ($10) in the TDS downstairs studio and the Special Milonga at Café Parizade on Saturday from 10 PM to 2 AM ($15).
After the last Sunday workshop with Nick and Diana, we rest up for mid-point in this series of Monday classes. Beginners will continue walking inside and outside in cross system. Intermediates will explore volcadas and more in close embrace.
