This Weekend in Tango, October 31 – November 3, 2013

Join us TONIGHT at the Halloween Practilonga at TDS from 7:30-11:00 PM ($5). DJ Cecil Ho will scare up some of his best tandas. Jae will provide the ghoulish treats. All are encouraged to bring a snack or wear something festive to make this a memorable night.

No Beginner class tonight, but all Tango Utopia classes resume in November:

Starting Monday, November 4th:

Intermediate class: The Elements of the Cross” (7 PM). In this 8-week course, students will learn the basic techniques of the cross and practice crossing steps (cruce y cruzada).

Advanced class: “The Art of the Secret Lead”  with guest teacher, John Singletary. In this 4-week series, leaders and followers will practice and explore the give and take that is possible with every step when both partners (and their cores) are fully engaged in the dance.

Starting Thursday, November 7th:

Beginner class: During the eight-week course, we will concentrate and work on the basics such as posture, embrace, body awareness, basic steps, pivots, connection, and walk in cross system. This series is ideal for tango newbies and students who want to refresh their skills.

November Tango Utopia Classes

The new series of Tango Utopia classes begin on November 4th and 7th!

Beginner classes start on Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 PM. During the eight-week course we will concentrate and work on the basics such as posture, embrace, body awareness, basic steps, pivots, connection, and walk in cross system. This series is ideal for tango newbies and students who want to refresh their skills.

Cost per class/series (8 weeks)
Individual: $10/$65
Couple: $15/$110

Both the Intermediate and Advanced classes start on Monday, November 4th.
Jae will teach Intermediate students “The Elements of the Cross” (7 PM). In these classes, Intermediate students will learn the basic techniques of the cross and practice crossing steps (cruce y cruzada). This level of class is ideal for beginners to intermediate dancers and and also advanced dancers who want to improve their technique.

Cost per class/series (8 weeks)
Individual: $10/$65
Couple: $15/$110

The Advanced class welcomes back guest teacher, John Singletary, who will help students learn “The Art of the Secret Lead.” In this series, leaders and followers will practice and explore the give and take that is possible with every step when both partners (and their cores) are fully engaged in the dance.  For this month, classes will start at 8:45 PM.

Cost per class/series (4 weeks)
Individual: $15/$45
Couple: $25/$80

We invite Tango Utopia students and the rest of the community to come to the FREE práctica on Mondays at 8:00.

This Weekend in Tango, October 24-27, 2013

TONIGHT is the last session of Beginner classes (6:30 PM). We will announce the new series soon. Following class, students of all levels can attend the weekly práctica at 7:30 PM ($5) to refine what we learned this week.

This weekend Triangle Tango hosts guest teachers Oscar Casas and Ana Miguel for special workshops. Although the workshops are full, you can come out to dance at one the milongas:

  • Friday, October 25th from 10 PM to 1 AM at Triangle Dance Studios ($10)
  • Saturday, October 26 from 10 PM to 1 AM at Piazza Italia in Durham’s Brightleaf Square with live music ($15) For more information visit the Triangle Tango website.

As always on Sundays, we rest up for the intermediate (vals) and Advanced (split weight) classes on Mondays.

This Weekend in Tango, October 17-20, 2013

Start your weekend off right by joining us at TONIGHT’S weekly práctica at 7:30 PM ($5). Here students of all levels can practice what we learned this week in class. If you’re still new to tango, you can come to the Beginner lesson that starts at 6:30 PM.

On Friday, October 18th, Triangle Tango hosts it’s Third Friday Milonga at Open Eye in Carrboro. Our favorite guest teacher Cecil Ho will give the FREE intro lesson at 8 PM and DJ the milonga from 9-11:30 ($5). For more information visit the Triangle Tango website.

As always on Sundays, we rest up for the intermediate (milonga) and Advanced (split weight) classes on Mondays.

This Weekend in Tango, October 10-13, 2013

This weekend in tango is our favorite weekend because we host Milonga Utopia on Saturday, October 12th from 9 PM to 2PM ($10). This month features one of our favorite local DJs, Katia Singletary whose tandas will be infused with the warm and inviting breezes from Greece. We also have our usual yummy munchies and sparkling door prize. REMEMBER: Tango Utopia students get a discount on the price of admission.

You can brush up on the techniques you learned in class by attending the weekly práctica TONIGHT at 7:30 ($5), which begins immediately after the Beginner class.

On Sunday, we rest up for our Monday classes. Intermediate students continue their milonga moves and Advanced students will keep working on split weight.

This Weekend in Tango, October 3-6, 2013

Tonight’s practilonga features a special guest DJ, Dedra Demaree, who will treat us to her expertly arranged tandas ($5). The práctica starts at 7:30 PM, immediately after the Beginner class on the cross system.

As usual on Sunday, we rest up for our Monday classes. Intermediate students will work on their milonga moves. Cecil Ho returns to teach the Advanced class to play with split weight.
