This Weekend in Tango, July 25–28, 2013

As usual we start the weekend with the Beginner series TONIGHT at 6:30 PM at TDS. For the third class, we will learn how to walk in cross system.

After class, stick around for the weekly Thursday práctica at 7:30 PM at TDS ($5). Tonight’s event is our only opportunity to dance this weekend, so be there!

As always on Sundays, we rest up for our Intermediate and Advanced classes on Mondays. Intermediate students will continue working with using the check step to change direction. Advanced students will use the leader’s back sacada to set up the follower’s sacada.

Looking ahead to the August Milonga Utopia, we will be welcoming guest DJ from Asheville, Lisa Jacobs. So let’s keep practicing what we’re learning in class to get ready for her amazing tandas!

Remember to sign up for these events at our Meetup site and like Tango Utopia on Facebook for the latest updates and photos.

This Weekend in Tango, July 18-21, 2013

We kick off the weekend with the second class of the Beginner series. Last week we learned how to walk on the beat and with a partner. In class, we will build on those skills and learn more about the embrace and movement. Don’t worry if you’ve missed the first class—just jump right in!

Now that Beginner classes have begun, the weekly Thursday práctica starts at 7:30 ($5). We had a great turnout last week and hope to see more people tonight!

There are two milongas for your dancing pleasure. Enjoy tango in a casual atmosphere at Triangle Tango’s Third Friday Milonga at Open Eye Café in Carrboro ($5). The FREE intro lesson starts at 8 PM and the milonga goes from 9:00-11:30 PM.

For a more elegant tango experience, go to Saturday night’s Milonga Carolina at Café Parizade in Durham ($10). This event is hosted by last week’s DJ, Thierry Olivry, and features a glass of wine and excellent dancing from 10:00 PM to 1:30 AM.

For more information about this weekend’s milongas, visit the Triangle Tango website.

As usual on Sundays, we rest up for our Intermediate and Advanced classes on Mondays. Intermediate students will continue with the check step and learn how to use it to change direction. Advanced students will use the super ochos they learned last week to set up the leader’s back sacada.

You may sign up for these events at our Meetup site. And don’t forget to like Tango Utopia on Facebook for the latest updates and photos!

A very exciting weekend of tango awaits us!  Our Beginner class kicks off the weekend TONIGHT at 6:30 PM at TDS ($10 drop-ins; $65 for the series). This 8-week course will teach the basic techniques of Argentinean tango, including today’s class topic, the tango walk and embrace. The weekly Thursday practica starts immediately after the class at 7:30 ($5).

Saturday, July 13th is our monthly Milonga Utopia (9:00 PM to 2:00 AM at TDS). DJ Thierry Olivry will be sure to set our hearts and feet ablaze with his wonderful tandas. As always, we’ll have a raffle for a sparkling door prize and plenty of munchies ($10; $7 for Tango Utopia students).

As always on Sunday, we rest up for Monday’s classes. Intermediate students will continue practicing controlled stops and Advanced students will learn back sacadas.

This Weekend in Tango, July 4-7, 2013

We are heating up the dance floor this Fourth of July holiday weekend, starting with TONIGHT’S práctica at TDS (7-9 PM, $5). Tango Utopia guest teacher, Cecil Ho, will host this event for those of us who plan to stay in town.

Saturday, July 6th is another opportunity to dance at Triangle Tango’s First Saturday Milonga at TDS (9 PM-1 AM, $8). The DJ for this event is none other than our fearless leader, Jae Grisham. We hope to see some familiar faces on the dance floor, especially those of you who attended the Student Milonga last week.

As always on Sundays, we rest up in preparation for classes. The new series for Fundamental/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced tango classes start Monday, July 8th and Beginner classes start on Thursday, July 11th. Remember, students who sign up via Meetup and pay for the entire series will get a discount.
