Fellow Utopians, we are delighted to announce that the group classes are getting a make-over! (Many thanks to all of you who shared your feedback!) Here’s what you need know before the next set of classes begins (October 13, details below):
Beginner class. During the six-week course we will work on “the basics”, including: posture, embrace, body awareness, basic steps, pivots, connection, and walk in cross system. We will explore musicality, vals, and the milonga. All dance levels will be able to benefit from this class. Students are welcome to repeat the beginner class at no additional charge.
Intermediate class: “Playing Footsie”. We’ll explore various way to use and play with foot contact, including: the Barida (“the sweep”), El Sanguchito (“the sandwich”), the Parada (“the stop”), the Pasada (“the passover”). Participation is by invitation only: contact Jae to ask if you have the pre-requisites.

Tango Utopia’s 6 week series group class on the Wednesday Beginner (7:00 PM) and Intermediate (8:30 PM) classes resume tomorrow (January 26). We look forward to seeing you back in the studio.

The Thursday Practica (7:30 PM) will also resume, in the upstairs studio as usual.

Attention : No group class and Thursday Practica for two weeks!
We are canceling Utopia’sThursday Practica for next two weeks on 1/13 and 1/20 due to omicron surge. We’ll continue monitor the situation and at that point, we’ll make decision weather to or not to resume. That goes same for our Wednesday group class, we’ll take two weeks break. Hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

Yatma Diallo was born in Senegal and has lived in Italy for 25 years. His first dance experiences, in Dakar, belong to the world of salsa and hip hop, disciplines that he has continued to cultivate.
He approached tango ten years ago through his first study experiences in Europe with Monica Maria, Susana Miller and Jorge Firpo.
He spent a lot of time in Buenos Aires to deepen his dance in all its expressive forms. In a few years, he managed to achieve interesting professional awards in the milonguero tango field, to which he has dedicated himself with passion. In relation to the didactic aspect, his experiences in other folk dances led him to convey to his students the rhythmic aspect of tango and its interpretative possibilities.
Since 2012, he has been collaborating with Monica Maria, carrying out an intense teaching and exhibition activity, and in 2013 he obtained a diploma for teaching dance at the “National Educational Sports Center”. He teaches tango and milonga in Milan, where he collaborates with Horca Myseria and holds technical seminars in various cities, both Italian and international (USA, Europe, Africa). Together with Monica Maria, he created the “Vela y Tango” project which, in addition to the stable tango school, organizes events and holidays to sail and study tango in the ports of Buenos Aires. He is also president of the Mundo Milonguero Association, which he founded in 2014.
